Interim Finance Director (6 month FTC) – 3 days per week, mainly working from home.

Our client is an established community-based charity who operate a highly successful social enterprise model. The work they do is of huge benefit to young people and families.

This is an organisation that champions flexibility – this is a 3 days per week role, predominantly working from home. There are some regular, in person meetings but they are booked well in advance. The 3 days can be structured in any way to suit you.

Reporting directly into the CEO, the Finance Director is responsible for ensuring that financial strategies enable the charity to achieve its vision, mission and strategic aims. You will manage the financial resources, overs all financial reporting, statutory accounting and business planning, as well as ensuring the integrity of financial control and transactional financial activity.

Within the current economic climate, whilst the charity is financially robust, this role will provide support in adapting and responding to the cost of living crisis and ensure that accurate information is provided to the Board and the Senior Leadership Team to aid effective and timely decision making.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership
    • Leading the finance team maintaining a rigorous and positive culture and environment.
    • Developing and communicating team objectives, outcomes and performance targets.
    • Ensuring that the business partner approach is effective and supportive within the overall operational structure.
  • Strategic planning and reporting
    • Stimulating organisational growth by developing, communicating and monitoring sound financial strategies and models.
    • Developing and implementing ambitious and sustainable long, medium and short-term financial strategies.
    • Monitoring and interpreting revenue, cost and cash flow against targets as well as forecasting future trends and risks for trustees, the CEO and senior management.
    • Working with the SLT to analyse change and innovation proposals.
    • Preparation of long-term and short-term cash flow forecasts.
    • Recommend the investment strategy and policy – monitoring the transactions of the investment portfolio.
    • Analysis of financial performance of the operation, making strategic recommendations for future improvement.
  • Operational and statutory management
    • Ensuring the financial operating and reporting systems meet statutory and regulatory requirements and are in line with best practice.
    • Ensuring an appropriate financial policy framework is in place e.g. expense ratios and income mix.
    • Providing a strategic financial lead to the planning, budgeting and expenditure control arrangements to ensure effective and prudent use of resources.
    • Take the lead in preparing annual budgets and forecasts.
    • Ensure that authority levels and other internal financial controls are set, publicised and implemented.
    • Take the lead in tax planning.
    • Preparation and production of statutory annual accounts, liaising with auditors as necessary.

About you:

  • You are a qualified accountant with at least 10 years' experience as a Finance Director.
  • Our business modelling experience is outstanding.
  • You have experience of leading finance teams with a business partnering approach.
  • Any charity experience would be a bonus.

Flexibility: 3 days per week (hours structured to suit you), mainly working from home with occasional meetings and travel around the Hampshire region.
